Monica and Luke’s wedding at the Barns at Chip Ridge in Abingdon, VA is today’s blog sneak peek! This venue has one of the most perfect rolling hill backdrops I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of the view from my parents’ house where I grew up. It made the day feel even more special for me!

The Timing of an Outdoor Wedding

When you are working with your wedding planner, venue, and photographer, the timing of your wedding when taking place outdoors is everything. As you might think, sunlight and shadows control all aspects of outdoor photography! If you want your shots to pop, consider the golden hours for all of your most important moments – that magical time just after sunrise and before sunset. These are the key moments for portfolio stalwarts like portraits and first looks. The light is soft, warm, and perfect for making colors glow and giving your photos that dreamy feel.

But watch out for high noon; that harsh sun can cast ugly shadows and mess with your photographer’s exposure. And don’t forget about the weather; cloudy days can add drama, while mist or a light drizzle can make your shots moody. Different seasons offer unique opportunities too, like the vibrant fall foliage or the serene beauty of snowy landscapes.

I think Monica and Luke made perfect decisions when it came to all of these, so I wanted to include some tips for any future brides and grooms researching!
